I follow the Miami Hearld and last night I read an article about a South Korean band making their U.S. debut here in Aventura, Miami this weekend!
Markus Gottschlich, founder of Jazz Academy Miami, brought Black String (블랙스트링) to perform after his trip to Asia. The group was founded in 2011 and they bring a new sound to world music. According to SORI NYC, “This new sound will be interpreted by artists who embrace traditional music as well as jazz, reflecting both composed and improvised creations.”
This January, see the martial arts action comedy, Railroad Tigers.
According to Variety, Railroad Tigers (铁道飞虎) is “set in 1941 with Chan playing a railroad worker who leads a team of fighters to derail the Japanese war effort by using his deep knowledge of the train network, ambushing soldiers and stealing supplies to feed the starving Chinese.”

Huang Zitao, better known as Tao, plays a major role in the film. It also stars Wang Kai and Darren Wang.
I’ve been looking forward to the Lantern Light Festival for over two months. This Thursday, I finally went with the other admins and it was a beautiful night.
The festival travels around the world and the handcrafted lanterns are from China. The 400 foot dragon was awesome. There were activities such as golf, a virtual reality roller coaster, a Chinese acrobat show and more. I had noodles for dinner but there was a nice variety to choose from like pizza and elephant ears for those who prefer traditional fair food.
The festival was going to be in town until January 8, 2017 but it has now been extended to January 29th due to large requests. Tickets can be bought online or in front of the gate. Check out some of the photos I took and the highlight video below.
I have been waiting to make this post for almost a year now! The people behind The Salty Donut have no idea how happy they made me when I received an invite to their private soft grand opening today before their public grand opening tomorrow in Wynwood.
I thought I didn’t like donuts since I never enjoyed them but The Salty Donut made me realize it was because I’ve never had gourmet. Miami’s first artisanal donut shop made its first official appearance last year and is not only nationally recognized, but is on several lists of top donut shops.
Check out some of the donuts that were sold during the year…..
- Boston Creme – 24 hour raised brioche donut filled with Bavarian cream filling, salted chocolate ganache, topped with chocolate curls & cocoa dust
- Eggnog Creme Brulee – 24 hour raised brioche scooped out and filled with homemade torched eggnog custar. Topped with homemade whip cream and fresh berries.
- Coffee Crumb – Cinnamon coffee swirl cake donut with Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso glaze & cinnamon crumb topping
- Cookies + Cream – Tahitian Vanilla bean cake donut with Oreo cookie swirl, buttercream glaze & topped with Oreo cookie crumble
- Blueberry Crumb – Blueberry cake donut, wild blueberry glaze & cinnamon streusel
GLUTEN FREE AND/OR VEGAN DONUTS

I spent Sunday night at Kaja Kon‘s Kaja If You Kan. I honestly had a good time. There was karaoke, Korean food, kpop merchandise, drinks, and DJ Kamal Kazi played all the latest hits. I saw the lovely ladies from K!Junkies and Justin from Ok Pop. Members of FIU’s Korean Culture Club performed and they were ALL AWESOME. I really enjoyed special guests, Sam Ock and J. Han. The host, JC Park, was so friendly. Thank you CS Entertainment. The CEO (Steven I believe) was so down to earth. He spent most of the night talking and dancing with us on the floor. Unheard of!!! I am so looking forward to future events.
