Wynwood is a trendy district in North Miami. One of my favorite spots is Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop and Cafe. Fireman Derek Kaplan is a real life Miami Dade firefighter and self taught baker. He opened his small shop last year and is very well known.
I don’t know about you but I hate baked goods from grocery stores. They don’t have that home cooked taste. From savory tweets like quiches and breakfast sandwiches to sweet treats like captain crunch cookies and amaretto cheesecakes, this bake shop is addicting and amazing.
I love their small free parking lot behind the shop. The entrance is right next to the building. There are two small tables inside and outside. The menu literally changes throughout the day. For example, in the morning you may find strawberry basil pie but in the afternoon, it’ll be sold out but now have salty monkey pie. The slices of pies and cheesecakes range from $5-$6. Pictured here is their guava cheesecake, peanut butter and chocolate custard pie and their birthday cake cheesecake. The latter is made with Oreo birthday cake cookies!
Who doesn’t love Oreo cheesecake? Next to that is what Fireman Derek is well known for, his Crack pie. Yes, it is that addicting. It is a salted caramel pie with an oatmeal cookie crust. Their spinach and feta cheese quiche is delicious.
They have unique tasty jumbo cookies life toffee and guava and whie chocolate chip. I love their donuts. Picture here is their key lime creme brulee and Oreo puppy chow doughnut. For breakfast, I recommend a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a fresh, flaky buttery croissant like the one pictured above.
